The Quest

Chapter 1 The Lion

It all started when Hailey read a book called The Mystery of the Magic Lion. When she read it she brought it home and she told Jazy, Jasmain, Zarzar Azarig, to come to her house. When they got their book it started to glow then it opened a portal in her closet. But she did not know. When they decided to play dress up. Hailey went to go get her prom dress and she saw it, there was a lion in her closet. She screamed in terror then he said, " I am the magic lion from your book. I have been waiting for you to come for a long time, you shall be the one to save my parents and the Land of Majestic. Then Hailey said, "What are you talking about? What's so special about me? If I do, what about my friends?" Then the lion said, "There will be monsters and you will find 9 keys to unlock the doors to the room of doom. But first you must defeat 3 creatures. Once you defeat the creature they will have a necklace or box with the key in it or on it."  Then Jazy and Zarzar said "How long will this take?" And will we have powers?" Then the lion says, "On the way to your destiny to the huge evil magic Mistrese Mastereca bull and human, an...."Then Hailey interrupted him and said, "Wait, wait, wait... I have to defeat a huge beast! With my bare hands!!" Lion says, "No, If you let me finish! Now you will ...." Hailey interrupted again, "Do I have to pack a suitcase?" Lion says, " Would you stop interrupting me! Please!" Hailey said, "yes." " Thank you!" He screamed as he got frustrated  then goes on hoping not to be interrupted again! "Now as I said, You, Hailey, will have this magic sword and you, Azaria, have this map to navigate. You, Jazmaine, will have the magic case to hold the keys and once you and your friends get all the keys, hold all in one hand and they will combine into one. Once they are one it is your job to protect these keys. You are the key keeper!" Azaria said, " What do we wear, rags?" Jazzy cried, "Ewww." Then the lion said "NO, You will get them when you step in the portal."

Chapter 2 The First Creature

Fast you can make that thing float instead. Then Samantha said, "float cool!" Then they find something. "It's an Iron Golem," said McKenzie. Then Jazzy said, "His home is Steve! He is our gardener." He ran off then came back with meat that was cooked, and raw for Isabella. "What is it?" asked Jazzy. "Squirrel and deer." said Hailey. "That's food, it taste good!"  said Zarzar short for Azaria. Then they tried to fall asleep. Then Izsabella barked and barked and the wolf howled. It was the creature and he had found them! It was time to fight. They got ready to fight. Hailey said, "Get ready to fight this beast, remember the plan?"  "Yes!" everyone said. They made armor with magic and turned into metal. Their plan was ready, it was time to take action. As they all rushed out crowded thoughts worried their minds with hearts pounding, but they still go and fight. "Ahhhhhh." they all said as they charged towards it, the beast. They fought and fought and got three keys. They had won the battle.

Chapter 3 The Next Creature

When they got up they knew it was time to find the next beast. So they got up, got dressed, ate more deer and packed up. They went on their way. Then the lion showed up and said, "Great work, two more to go. the next is an eagle digger. Bye and good luck!" Then they went on their way five miles ahead. Steve wanted some water so every one started looking for a pond. But instead of finding a pond they find a waterfall. They start filling up their water bottles and then they put on special clothes that the lion gave them and jumped in! Then they saw a huge eagle. They put clothes on and then found a huge cave. "This is awesome!" said Jazzy. "And grand, " said Azarria, Samantha and M.K. "It's fabulous!" said Hailey as they got ready to fight. They think of how they can get those last keys then they said, "Same as last time except not the keys, it's around her neck and she won't let her or me get them so we must kill them. (the eagles) They charged and threw her up in the air and chopped her. Then she started pecking. "Oh," they called out. The chop almost snapped  it in half, but then they all worked together and tied her down. Then chop, she died .

Chapter 4 The Last Creature

Then they went to bed and slept two days! They went on and on then they saw something in the distance, it's the last creature. They killed the beast by dog tying its feet to the ground and then hands. Then a great line and light showed up. The keys had combined . They unlocked the door and the land was saved. Then they all still had to go home! They lived happily ever after with their pets.

Roadrunner Games

Some roadrunners live in my ear
And they make it very hard to hear.
In the morning they beep their roadrunner beaks
Until I give them sweets to eat.

When things at school get a little boring
They fill my nose with roadrunner snoring.
Then late at night when I am in bed
I hear roadrunner games in my head.

It's really true its not an invention
That is why it is so hard to pay attention.
So when my teacher talks and I do not hear
It is because of those roadrunners in my ear.

The Journey

Late at night a cat was chasing a rat. So while he was chasing the varmint,

he ran out of his front door. He ran and ran until he reached an ally way. Then his collar caught on something and it popped off with a click. The cat did not know where his collar had gone. The rat scurried into a nearby hole. The cat then noticed he was in a strange and new place. He was distressed so he curled onto an old beat up mattress and went to sleep.

The next day he got up and walked just outside the ally way. He saw lots of dogs and then one of the dogs saw him! Suddenly the dog started barking and running toward the cat and the others followed along with him. Then the cat jumped up and over the first dog and had to dodge numerous slobbery mouths. The dogs seemed very anxious to catch him so the cat ran faster. He looked back and the dogs were still chasing him! While he was running he saw something familiar. It was his collar that he had lost when he had chased the rat! He picked up the collar and continued to run. The dogs finally gave up the chase and walked back to where it all had started.

The cat squeezed his head back through the collar and started looking for signs of home. Finally he supposedly saw a truck that passes his house every day, so he ran to it and jumped into the back. It ended up not being the truck he thought it was. It was a milk truck! So he drank some of the extra milk dripping from the bottle and since there was a string on the bottle he picked it up and jumped out of the truck. He looked for his way back home.

He thought if he went back in the direction he had found the collar he might find his way home. When he found his footprints in the dirt he decided to follow them. While he was following the footprints he looked up and saw an eagle swooping in to catch him. He started to sprint so the bird wouldn't catch him. When the bird tried to get the cat he scratched the bird and the bird picked him up anyways and brought him to his nest to feed him to the bird's babies. A few seconds after the cat arrived baby birds started pecking him. So while the cat was hitting them away he fell backwards onto the next branch down. The cat had an idea. The cat started jumping branch to branch getting closer and closer to ground.

Finally he got down and saw his house. So the cat limped forward until he reached his home. He scratched on the door until his owner opened it. When he did the cat frantically ran and stumbled to his cat bed. Once he got to his bed the cat was exhausted and went to sleep almost immediately.

The Evil Snowman

The writing prompt was: You are being followed down the street by an evil snowman that came to life! But the worst part is that no one believes you. Tell a story about what you do next.

When the evil snowman came to life and started chasing me down the street, I pulled out my cell phone and started recording him chasing me. That night I went to the police department and showed them the video. They freaked out and sent the video to the fire department. When they saw it, they knew just what to do.

The next day before the snowman woke, up the fire truck pulled up to his igloo. John, the firefighter, turned on his siren, then the snowman came out. Just as he did that, he got sprayed with water, which melted him. John scooped up the melted snowman and watered his daisies with it.

The next day, John woke up and his daisies were dead. Was it just a coincidence or did the snowman do it?

What is a Good Leader

What is a good leader? Many people might wonder about that question. One person who was a good leader was our 32nd president, Franklin D. Roosevelt. Some people might not wonder about that question, but here are 3 qualities that Roosevelt showed; Endurable, Empathy, and Peacemaker.

Roosevelt was endurable. Why, because he helped lead the United States through some of the most difficult times in history. it's a tough quality, but he did it under hard times, such as he did when under the Great depression. he did a good job being endurable through critical times. Yes, even leaders have pressures, and every president should have this important quality.

Another quality he had was showing empathy. "in the Article it states that he created New Deal programs. "his first 100 days in office, he worked to pass laws that created agencies to get jobs, to support farmers, and to stabilize banks." When under pressure he helped save lives, and when people needed help he helped. When in the 30's, The Great Depression. he contributed to saving lives, he cared, and did what presidents should; show empathy, and being a leader.

One of the last qualities of a good leader that Roosevelt had was being a peacemaker. "In paragraph 7, he urged American allies to join together as part of a peacekeeping organization. this group would later become the United Nations. That is the most important quality a leader should have, just have peace, sometimes, when another country annoys you or declares war. Roosevelt signed a declaration of war with Japan, so every president should be a peacemaker.

These are 3 examples of being a good leader, and the question is answered. Every president should be fair and do what is the best, like Roosevelt did. all these qualities are required to be a good leader. These are examples of being a good leader.

For the Love of Books and Reading

What starts a child wanting to read? Is it the enthusiasm of the parent or teacher? Is it the books that fill their room? Listening to an adult read aloud a most beloved story over and over? I asked many students what got them into books over my many years of teaching and they had these answers and many more. However, the one answer I heard the most was "finding one I like". Sounds so easy, but in my world with so many books it sometimes seems an overwhelming problem that there will never be an answer. I usually start with "What do you like to do in your spare time?"  "What kind of TV shows do you like?"  "Do you like to solve puzzles or hear about books that make you laugh?" " Do you have a pet?" Before long the student gets to talking to me and finding a book on the many library shelves isn't near as difficult.

My two year old grandson, loves books. Jaxon loves to watch Curious George so that is one book we always know he'll like. Riding on  tractors, trucks, and using tools are things he does with daddy so we  find books that make those machinery sounds. Animals are a huge love of his, so there are many non-fiction books on his bookshelf. Little ones are so fun to share the love of books with and they love doing something with the adult in their life. They'll also use books to make buildings, fences, and put them on their head. But through this interactive play they are learning that books are fun!!! By having someone read to them they are learning that books are special and another way people bond with each other. Soon you'll see them reading to their pets, stuffed toys, even to parents.

My son only cared to have non-fiction books read to him as a little one. He'd even listen to his dad read Outdoor Life or a farm magazine. We wore out the book Puppies and he still has the second one we bought him to this day. He wouldn't listen to Dr. Seuss, nursery rhymes and Mother Goose, but would sit all day with a Pictionary. When he started school he found the Bernstein Bears series and  later loved Where the Red Fern Grows, which still is on his bedroom shelf. When he found Gary Paulsen's books he knew outdoor books were for him. He still enjoys those kinds of literature.

Encouraging the love of books can be started with children at any age. Let them see you reading books for enjoyment, or how to build something, to cook, or learn to knit, play a video game, to hook up a television or to find something on the internet. Before you know it your child will be reading to learn and not just reading for fun, and isn't that what we really want?

The Library World

Being a librarian, now called a Media Specialist, I have the wonderful task of helping children find wonderful books they can read over and over. Kindergartners come so excited to have a book to take home for someone to share with them. Older students come in looking for specific authors, series, or types of non fiction so they can learn about a topic. Many will say I just got a new gerbil I need a gerbil book, or dog, or cat, or horse, etc... That step in reading to learn is the greatest step of all, but for me the first steps are the most exciting.

Children loving the library and reading is very important to me as well for their growth. Think of being unable to read road signs, menus, church bulletins or any other environmental print. As an educator I want children to come to the media center to find written material that will take them away to worlds far away or long ago, to see that they aren't the only one facing a situation or finding out how a famous person became who they are. The library can be their safe place, where the cruel world can't enter and they can face it again when they are ready.

This blog, I hope, will let you enter our library world to see what is going on and how our children are growing and learning. However, if you, too, would love to enter the world of make-believe or escape from the demands of your world. Come on in!
